Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the most common questions that AMCS answer every day, if you cannot find your answer below please see our contact information.
Where is my website?
When you first sign up with AMCS Internet Ltd, you will be sent an invoice and an art pack. This art pack must be filled in and returned to AMCS in order to get your website designed and have your information put into your design.
From the art pack being returned to AMCS, you will be given a due date, which is 21 working days from the date your art pack was recieved, you should expect your website proof to be emailed to you within those 21 days.
If you are now outside the 21 days quited, please see the "Why isn't my website live?" section below.
What is an art pack?
An art pack is a blank information pack that is sent to you when you initially sign up with AMCS. This pack can be in 1 or more of any 3 forms. The standard way is the online art pack system where you are emailed a link to our art pack system, you simply click on the link and this takes you through to your spessific art pack. The second way your art pack could be sent is a Microsoft Word document via email, this is a similar layout to the online art pack for those that are not as computer literate. For those that do not possess any computer skills, the third and last option is a printed art pack that can be sent in the post, though we usually advise staying away from this option due to the unreliability of Royal Mail.
With any of the art pack methods, you need to fill in as much information as possible and attach any photos you can and return the art pack as soon as you can.
What information do I need to supply?
AMCS Internet Ltd are a web hosting, design and marketing company, we know a lot about the web, but we dont know anything about brick laying, fixing cars, washing windows, damp proofing or pretty much anything else involving being outside (thats why we work in an office).
All we need to know is, who you are, what you do, how long you have been doing what you do. Additional reccomended information could be opening hours, prices, photos to display what it is you do in pictures.
The more information you can send, the better. The more information we have to work with makes it easier to build you a site you will be happy with.
Why isn't my website live?
Firstly, have you responded to the email regarding your website proof? If so, and you have requested the website go live, you need to check your domain name, to do this, please type your full domain into the address bar, your domain what you chose when you initially signed up with AMCS Internet Ltd and begins with "www.", please see below on how to find the address bar.
If you have recieved your proof, but have not asked for your website to go live, you must either call AMCS Internet Ltd or reply to the email asking for your website to go live.
If you have not yet recieved your proof, are you still within the initial 21 working days from your first purchase as all websites with AMCS Internet Ltd are given a 21 day turnaround which is explained when you purchase the package.
What/Where is my address bar?
Your address bar is where you type in a web address when you wish to go to a website. This is the perfered method to go to a website that you already know. You can always recognise the address bar as it is the long white bar at the very top of your browser that always contains the current web address. Please see below for examples from Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome 13 and Mozilla Firefox 4.
What is a search engine?
Firstly, Google, Bing and Yahoo are all seperate companies that provide a service via their website, this service is commonly known as a search engine. To appear on these search engines, your website must be submitted for indexing. This process allows the "spider" (a program that is part of the search engine) to look at your website and use an algorithm to determin what key words and phrases your website is indexed for within the search engine database.
Why cant i find my website on the search engines?
Most websites do not have much context and are not written in a way that takes advantage of the algorithm and how it processes the web page and this prevents them from being found within the searches.
If you have a Search Engine Package with AMCS Internet Ltd, we take advantage of knowing a large portion of the algorithm and optimise your website to allow you to be found for your chosen key phrases and areas. Though this process can take between 4 and 8 weeks. This time period is down to the search engines themselves as they do have a large queue and it takes time to process the amount of websites that are submitted.
Why cant i find my website on GOOGLE?
Are you sure you are using www.google.co.uk and not what is known as a customer search engine that claims to be "powered by Google"? Some examples of these search engines are the AOL, Virgin Media and Sky search engines. These are powered by hardware purchased from Google and are not seaches that are run against the Google search engine its self.
Can you use images found on Google on my website?
This is a grey area considering the nature of Google and the web its self. The general rule is that any image not acompanied by a copyright notice falls under fair use in the UK and could even fall under public domain. There are certain exceptions to this rule that can be discussed with your designer when choosing your images.
What browser am I using?
Sometimes, we will need to know what web browser you are using in order to help you with any problems that you may have. According to the information available, your browser is identified as follows:
Browser: Unknown (0)
IP Address: 38.107.179.216
